Defining Natural Medicine

“Natural Medicine is a distinct system of non-invasive health care and health assessment in which neither surgery nor drugs are used, dependence being placed only on education, counseling, natural medicine modalities and natural substances. This includes, without limitation, the use of foods, food extracts, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, digestive aids, botanical substances, topical natural substances, homeopathic preparations, air, water, heat, cold, sound, light, the physical modalities of natural non-manipulative bodywork and exercise to help stimulate and maintain the individual’s intrinsic self-healing processes.

Whether they emphasize the use of hydrotherapy, nutrition, non-invasive manipulation, herbs, or homeopathy, all practitioners of natural healing aim at stimulating the body to heal itself. Vis medicatrix naturae, or ‘the healing power of nature,’ remains central to natural medicine philosophy today. Rather than trying to attack specific diseases, natural healers focus on cleansing and strengthening the body, regardless of the specific methodology used.”

As defined by the Board of Natural Medicine Doctors and Practitioners.

The Natural Doctor’s Philosophy

As a Doctor in Natural Medicine, I believe there are several modalities that need to be integrated in order to initiate our bodies own natural healing and self-regenerative capabilities. These modalities include diet, nutritional supplementation, detoxification, and stress relief practices. This is a more holistic approach and promotes overall wellness of the body/mind.

After studying many healing diets, I am now convinced that a low carbohydrate protocol is the best approach for most symptoms. Sixty percent of our healing comes from a healing diet. Utilizing a ketogenic ancestral diet and practicing intermittent fasting are the most beneficial practices in healing most chronic disease.

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food”

~Hippocrates

Supplementation is also required to aid in nutritional support which may not be completely provided by our diet. Our current food supply has become deficient due to poor soil, industrialized farming, and genetically modified foods. I use and recommend only the best sources of supplemental nutrition which come from high quality, organic whole foods that will provide a synergetic compliment for healing, rebuilding the bodies systems and providing higher levels of energy and performance.

There are four major toxins that I believe are the cause of most chronic disease. These are biochemical, pathogens, excess carbohydrates, and stress. It is important to remove these toxins from the body. Appropriate and essential detoxification programs are recommended for each individual as determined by their results from their initial nutritional exam.

Stress is such a big factor in managing our body/mind connection. Learning to manage stress can go a long way to promoting health and longevity. I incorporate several techniques as part of a total and holistic approach to healing. Both the physical and emotional aspects must be considered for a total comprehensive health regimen. If the client is open to discuss any traumatic experiences and/or addictions; I can coach utilizing NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), hypnosis and additional therapies such as the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Meditation. This helps with the life stressors both past and current.

This more natural way of thinking may be new to some patients. I will be making available training classes in these new concepts and protocols. Doctor in Latin means teacher. I believe this is my major role as a Doctor of Natural Medicine to educate my clients on how to live an all-natural complimentary lifestyle that promotes health and longevity. Teaching people how to live a joy filled and balanced life.

“The doctor of the future will give no medicine but will interest her or his patients in the care of the human frame, in a proper diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.”
