Mythology: Hiding Divine Potential

Sharing the Myth:

The Chief God noticed that humankind had abused their divinity and potential. Angered, the Chief God decided to hide this potential so humankind couldn’t find it. A council of lesser gods was convened to decide where to hide it.

One suggested hiding it in the bowels of the earth. Another suggested the deepest ocean. Another, the highest mountain. However, the Chief God realized that humankind would eventually search every corner of the earth and seas.

So, they decided to hide it deep within themselves, for they would never think to look there.

Humankind’s true nature is to be the master of their own experience. Most will search outside themselves, unaware that what they seek is already within.

Journal Comments: What did you notice about your thoughts?

There is no real advantage in seeking the attention of the world around us. Achieving your potential lies in the power of:

  • Relaxed confidence
  • Self-command (outgrowing our need for authority)
  • Deferred gratification
  • Living without fear (or through it)

Believing that something is missing, we try to fill the void with addictions, attachments, and distractions, leading to imbalance. We seek approval from others. We often seek to fill the void within us by looking outside ourselves for potential and power, and instant gratification. When what we seek lies within.
